G’day and welcome to the exciting year ahead for 2011 for Christian Fellowship (CF).

CF is group of uni students (+ some TAFE and young workers) from all sorts of backgrounds who share a common love of Jesus Christ who we have come to know about through the bible. We meet together to encourage each other to live authentic Christian lives and to keep being shaped by God’s word. We also work together to see our whole campus hear and accept God’s great offer of forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus.

We meet together regularly for bible studies, church and training courses. There are also a number of camps that we hold ranging from overnight/weekend to week long, as well as some social events to just hang out and relax together.

So another jam packed exciting year is ahead for CF. This year we warmly welcome                                                           Steve Lister as our new AFES staff worker and pastor.

What’s on this week with CF:

WELCOME NIGHT

This Wednesday night (2^nd March) 5pm before Toga are holding a Welcome Night. It’s a casual event at the Convention centre with a free BBQ dinner where we’ll show you what we are about, what we believe, who we are and why we are here on campus. It’s a night for anyone interested to hear more about our club, you don’t have to be Christian; you don’t have to be first year or a member of CF. There will also be the opportunity to meet other students in your faculty. Afterwards a bunch of us will be heading to Toga so feel free to join us, or just stick around for a chat over some dessert.

UNICHURCH

Every Sunday night we also hold a church service on campus. It is a non-denominational service (So not specifically Baptist, Anglican, Catholic etc), and everyone is welcome, not just CF members.

We meet at the Rec Hall at 7pm on the residential side of the uni, near Beres Ellwood oval and the Gym every Sunday.

If you’ve never been to church- why not just rock up and check us out?!

Week Two Term One

Last Wednesday night CF held its annual Welcome night; an opportunity to hear about what CF does on campus and to meet other students in your faculty. The skit once again proved to be a good laugh, with another memorable hockey captain performance. The BBQ afterwards was a great feed with time to hang out and meet new people.

Friday’s social event, with a hit of tennis and game of Basketball, proved to be another fun night. The mosquitos sure kept everybody moving on the courts! This Friday, 11^th March, we’d love for you to join us for some beach volleyball and fish and chips at Wagga beach, 6pm.

Equip

Our regular CF Wednesday meeting (aka Equip) will be starting this week. Everyone is welcome, we meet at 4:30pm at the rec hall near to pool (same venue as Unichurch). This week we’ll be hearing about what is Equip and why do we do it. Why not come along and check it out?!

KICK OFF CAMP!!!

Get excited for the annual CF kick off Camp. An awesome weekend away together at Talbingo, Friday 18^th- Sunday 20^th March

Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world and the sat of the earth. But what does that mean for us in our everyday lives? How can we be salt and light on our uni campus? Come to Kick Off Camp and find out!!!

This year we’ll be learning from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount as part of our study of Matthew’s Gospel. There will be bible talks, discussion groups, outdoor fun and plenty of time to get to know other Christians at uni.

Tickets can be purchased at the Shop (in Rivcoll quadrangle, near Eat @ 20) for $65. Rego forms can be collected at unichurch (7pm Sunday) or at Equip.

Week Three Term One

What has, is and will be happening with CF ….

Beach volleyball and fish and chips last Friday night was not quite the ideal summer fun, however it didn’t stop CF having a great time. Despite the dampness, we had some time to relax and muse over the last week of uni and start looking forward to Kick off Camp Next weekend!

What’s kick off camp you ask…???

Well don’t miss out on this awesome weekend away with Christian Fellowship from 18^th-20^th March. We are off to Talbingo, a small village in the mountains about 2 hours drive from Wagga. It is our annual camp to head off as a group, learn more about each other, about God and His call for us to live as lights of the world and salt of the earth at Uni.

There will be talks, bible discussion groups, games, great food, and a chance to get to know other Christians at uni. Interested?! Great: well get moving because registration closes this Wednesday.

-          Buy your tickets ($65) from the Shop- near Eat @ 20 in the Rivcoll quadrangle).

-          Fill out a rego form at Equip this Wednesday (430pm at the Rec hall, near the gym). Cant wait to see you there!

Growth Groups (aka bible studies) have started for the year. Growth groups is a time we get together in small groups (mixed or guys or girls) and read part of the bible together. We aim to learn more from Gods’ word (the bible), encourage each other and be challenged with living for God everyday. Growth groups is a great place to learn more about who God is, and what Christianity is all about. You are welcome to join a group, or just come along and see what it’s like. It’s open to everyone- talk to Steve or Sonja at Unichurch (7pm Sunday) or Equip (430pm Wednesday).

Week five Term One

From 18^th-20^th March, Unichurch had their annual weekend away, Kick Off Camp, and what an amazing time it was. We were thoroughly spoilt once again with the beautiful backdrop of Talbingo and the biggest full moon in 20 years (the lifetime of many of us) on Saturday night.

We were challenged from Jesus’ sermon on the Mount, to live as the salt and the light Jesus has made us to be. Gals and guys discussion groups helped us work though topics such as lust, anger and divorce and examining our own hearts. Small group studies on Sunday morning on oaths, promises and loving our enemies provoked some great conversations also.

The epically awesome games on Friday night and Saturday arvo gave us time to burn off some energy; testing our skills in problem solving, pretzel eating, grape catching and tackling ( I don’t think anyone escaped that last game unscathed!). Topped off with sea biscuiting and chilling out at the dam for arvo tea- A big thanks to Jane’s Parents and Benj and Simmo’s firewood sales for the boats!

Lets not leave the teaching forgotten in Talbingo but let our light shine on campus so that our Father and King may receive praise and glory!

What happening over the holidays?!

Unichurch will still be on every Sunday, 7pm in the rec hall during holidays. However growth groups (bible studies) and Equip will take a break for the two weeks.

This Easter Come and find out how Jesus’ death can bring eternal life

Why not avoid the long weekend traffic this Easter and stick around in Wagga. On Good Friday night we will be screening a movie at the Rec Hall from 7pm, a great chance to hang out and be reminded of the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus dying on the cross for us. We’re planning to screen Passion of the Christ.

Easter Sunday join us for Unichurch Easter service, 7pm in the Rec Hall. We’ll be sharing a Middle-Eastern feast of Lamb as we reflect on what it means that Jesus is the Lamb of God! Bring your friends and please join us for an Easter message and free dinner.

Week Nine Term Two

On Friday 29^th April, CF Scav Hunt helped kick off this new term of uni. Becky and Simo had growth groups dressed in their finest, scattered through wagga in the hunt for feathers, Shakespearean inspiration, unsuspecting cod, randoms to serenade, milk to ‘chug’ and plenty more opportunity to practice (and fail) at night time photography. But what a great fun night it was. Thanks to everyone who got involved, dressed up from the starry sky, nursing home resident or commando to Chinese dragon.

Ironchef

Guys: This Friday. Will it be mi goreng for dinner again? Mum’s frozen dinner are getting low aren’t they? You’ve probably had macca’s 3 times already this week…. Why not come to CF bloke’s Iron Chef Challenge!? Plenty of Meat, flaming BBQs and chance to fight out who is the true tong master, and who should stick to cheese and toast!

Masterchef

Gals: Who will be CF Season 2 Masterchef!

Last year, we saw incredible creations from feta and chicken, tasted our way though the ingredients of butter chicken and tackled towering sponge cakes.

Well it on again this year, $5, for three course Meal

Where: St Martins College, Fairfax centre.
Arrive: 5:45pm for 6pm start
You will be divided into teams on arrival; which your cooking and culinary skills and expertise will earn point for. (Not everyone gets to cook). Get ready for a seriously great night of fun, food and fellowship!

Equip

Next Wednesday (18^th April) at our Wednesday Meeting (Equip) we will be having a Pakistan food Night to kick off our overseas missionary support. This year we will be supporting the university ministry in Pakistan; A similar group to CF, here at CSU Wagga. At Equip we will hear more about Pakistani Christian Uni students, spend some time praying for them and join together and share a Pakistani meal.

Please join us, Wednesday 18^th April, 5pm at the Rec Hall and be prayerful about how you can give to support them.

Events for this term include a Iron chef night for the Men on Friday 21^st May, and Master Chef night for the women of unichurch on Saturday 22nd May. These will be two night of just hanging out, having a bit of fun and cooking up feasts to share.

Don’t forget to keep considering going to Mid year Conference (MYC). Our annual conference with the other CSU campus Christian student groups. This year we look at the topic of Holiness. What does holiness mean? Can you be holy? Or is it just something you call a bucket that’s been repeated shot with a rifle and that Henry just cant fix?

Thanks to everyone on the music team who gave up their Saturday morning to learn more about serving God through music at church and have a bit of a jam session.

Prayer Meeting: Come to Ministry training centre on the 3^rd floor of the library Thursdays at 1pm, where we meet for a time of prayer to God.

So until…

- we enter a yodelling competition, especially after the attempts made at scav hunt

- we all get wood fires and stock up on Benj and Simmo’s firewood

- there is new carpet in the rec hall.

We are a group of uni students (+ some TAFE and young workers), pursuing a vast array of different career paths, but also seeking to learn more about God, our awesome creator and His Son, our saviour, Jesus Christ.

This Tuesday 2nd March we will be holding our welcome night. It kicks off at 5pm, and don’t worry- the Convention Centre is air-conditioned!!! It will be an evening where you can get a glimpse into the events we hold, what our aims are and how you can be involved. You will also get the chance to meet other students in your faculty and the older peeps of CF. Even if you’re not Christian, you’re welcome to come and check us out. There will also be a free BBQ and some classy dessert involved.

On Friday 5th March meet us at the gym on campus at 6pm and we plan to head to the tennis courts for a hit and also join us for a roast chicken dinner. Bring $3 for tea and your own racket if you have one, or we will have some spares. We look forward to seeing you there!!!
